Smoking Cessation

Smoking and Your Weight A popular excuse for not giving up cigarettes is the fear of weight gain. And perhaps it is well founded because smoking does in fact increase a person’s metabolism rate – partly, I might add, by forcing the heart to beat faster!
Every time you take a draw from a cigarette your heart is likely to beat 10 to 20 times more per minute for a period of time. Think about the stress you are putting on your heart. That stress plays a role in heart disease, which is the most common cause of smoking related deaths. So how many draws from one cigarette do you take? How many cigarettes do you smoke a day?
When you make the decision to give up cigarettes you will be giving your heart a rest because your metabolism will naturally slow down to the rate that it should it have been at. This can lead to a weight gain if you do not take steps to speed up your metabolism with healthy methods.
This can include regular exercise, healthy eating, hobbies that require physical exertion, chores, and finding ways to integrate healthy choices into your lifestyle on a daily basis.
Many people find they need help with such an endeavor. There’s a program called Quit Smoking Today, which was created by an expert in Neuro-linguistic-programming (a form of psychotherapy). This program has an amazing success rate – 97.2% of the original 5000 smokers that used the program have not smoked for over 6 months! It’s easier than it sounds, and your final result will be a healthier you – no cigarettes, and no excess weight!
